The cable modem comes in the firewall on eth1. My LAN is connected to the
firewall on eth0.

eth1 +----------+ eth0
RR ------| Firewall |------ LAN
+----------+

In that case the "first arrangement" is correct and the packet was spoofed.

Very interesting.

p.s.

As I'm writing this I got another alert. This time,
mail.sec.rr.com/24.30.218.62 is probing 119 (NNTP aka Usenet). I quick check
in netscape reveals a very interesting page.

Has anyone had experience with their ISP proactively probing them for
"security problems"?
