If you enabled DHCP during the install, and your ethernet card is recognized,
you should be all set.

To check on the ethernet card: In the terminal window type /sbin/ifconfig
if it says command not found try /usr/sbin/ifconfig

you should get something like:

etho Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:10:5A:1C:F3:E0
inet addr:24.161.96.154 Bcast:24.161.99.255 Mask:255.255.252.0
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:317 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:212 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:3
collisions:1 txqueuelen:100
Interrupt:11 Base address:0xb000

lo Link encao:ocal Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3924 Metric:1
RX packets:36 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:36 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0

Would help to know what ethernet card you have also. Just a rookie myself,
hopefully once we determine what the problem is, someone else will jump in and
help out.
