Hi, This is going to sound foolish, but I have to ask this question anyway.
I was wondering if somebody could tell me how to run my floppy drive, or
cdrom under Mandrake 8.1 on my Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop. There is an
explanation in some Linux books that talk about mounting the devices to the
file system, but I dont know which program to use. I can type "mdir" while
signed into root, and get the directory name or what is on the floppy, but am
still struggling to find out how to actually run it. There doesnt seem to be
much explanation on this subject. I have modem drivers I need to install, but
can't run the disc to install them. It is a tar.gz file. I also have the same
problem with my cdrom, which I'm sure will be solved at the same time once I
get past this stumbling block. Is there a command, or a certain program that
needs to be used? Please, once you are done laughing, would you be able to
steer a beginner? Thanks in advance for any help. Bill
