Mark,

Still no luck. I began to get frusterated after several hours of messing
with it, so I installed Windows to get it up and running again (this is my
wifes PC, and she does not like to be without e-mail for long...)

Then I installed Mandrake again from scratch of another partition. No gpm
this time... At any rate, the mouse still does not work. Since it works fine
in windows, and during the Mandrake instal, it is clearly not a hardware problem.

When I shut down KDE, can see the following error:

Cannot open device /dev/psaux
No such device or address

As I said before, in the /dev directory, there is a symbolic link called
psaux pointing to /dev/misc/psaux. Thinking this may be the ploblem, I changed
the XF86Config-4 file to look for the mouse in /dev/misc/

Of course, now I get the error

Cannot open device /dev/misc/psaux
No such device or address

It is definatly present.

crw-r----- 1 root root 10, 1

Any further sugestions? I have installed linu on several machines,
including two laptops, but have never had this much trouble with a mouse.

Thanks again for you help,

Dan
