Hello Ron:

While no means an expert I have never had a problem getting a sound card
like an SB Live up and running in *nix*

That said, I am not familiar with RH8 and have always done this from a
command line.

Have you tried that? In may distros all you need to do is type
"sndconfig" without quotes at a command line and the rest is easy.

That usually results in either an error, or with Linus letting one know
how to pronounce his first name.
