Hello all

I'd like to make a suggestion.. this question/comment posting system works
alright, but it has some shortcomings.. namely.. you can't post text files.
There are times when it might be helpful/advantageous to be able to post the
output of some file for other members to inspect/review. I see no ability to
do that here..

Secondly, I see that all of the other postings are archived for membership
convienence at the bottom of the page. This is a great thing if you have the
time to sift through all the posts to look for something that might be
relevant to your question. This doesn not strike me as a particularly useful,
user-friendty system.

So.. I have a recommendation. I have had some experience using a program
called "elog". Elog was origionally developed as an electronic shift logbook
for use at high-energy physics labs (I used to work at Brookhaven National
Lab). I have found it useful as a tech-support tool. Basically, it's a small,
self-contained database that allows full search capability, csv/text
attachments and a host of other useful features. I think this would make a
much more appealing system for problem/solution posts. Elog is also a great
way of creating a database of scripts.. the possibilities are endless..

Elog is available at There's also a demo logbook
available at (This is a linux help
book, convienently enough!)

I really believe that this logbook could help people like me (newbie) who
spend hours on end banging their heads in frustration. Please e-mail me at if you'd like more information..
